James "Alan" Smith is James R.’s youngest child and only son. Alan started working at James R. Smith Trucking Co., Inc. part time while still in high school. Alan holds the position of Vice President of James R. Smith Trucking Co., Inc. and J.R.S. Logistics, Inc. and is President of James A. Smith Transportation, Inc., which he jointly owns with his sisters, Kellie and Teressa. Alan is also President of and co-owner along with Teressa and Kellie of 304 Truck & Trailer Sales, Inc. He also holds his own C.D.L. license, and works closely with and understands the concerns of the drivers.

Alan is married to the former Tracey Lynn Dennis. They have two sons, Slay and Noah .

Alan is joint youth director at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he plays guitar and sings in the Christian rock and praise band "push". In his spare time, Alan enjoys riding their four wheelers, camping, taking the boys out on the boat, and just enjoying God's great world.
